Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. Today, we’re setting our sights on the Katana Mini from Boss. The Katana Mini is a portable, battery-powered seven-watt amplifier that outclasses its peers. The tone of the Katana centers upon three modes of operation that provide players with optimal versatility in the smallest package. These three modes start at Clean, which gives you sparkling, chimy rhythm tones with the feel and response of an amp twice its size. The second mode, Crunch, provides a built-in multi-stage analog overdrive circuit that excels at creamy rock and blues licks. Brown mode provides you with searing, high-gain leads inspired by the Waza amp, that are flush with harmonic content. Each mode is governed by a global, all-analog three-band equalizer, and is fed straight into an adjustable delay circuit that’s styled after tape delays of yore. This delay circuit gives you Time and Level controls that can be expanded to provide you with everything from slapback echo to lush extended delay lines. The component selection of the Katana Mini is no slouch, featuring a custom-designed 4" speaker, proprietary hardware and a specially-selected component group for maximum tonal output. A dedicated Aux input lets you attach your smartphone or other device and play it through the amp, letting you jam along, and it offers a cabinet simulated output for headphones or recording in case inspiration strikes. And since the Katana Mini weighs in at three pounds and takes six AA batteries, you can stick it in any piece of luggage for riffing on the go.
