Inspired by the classic ’70s CE-1 Chorus Ensemble, the Warm Audio WA-C1 Stereo Chorus & Vibrato delivers all of the lush, analog shimmer heard on popular tracks from the classic rock era and beyond. The WA-C1 is not an emulation. It a 100-percent analog preamp with premium components, such as the MN3007 Xvive BBD (Bucket Bridge Device) chip. But the WA-C1 also lets you go further than most vintage-era chorus/vibrato pedals by offering more subtle depth settings (via an actual rate control that was not offered on the original CE-1), a hi-z switch that changes the chorus from a ’70s sound to an ’80s vibe, increased headroom and even a flashing LED that shows the rate of modulation.
“One of my favorite chorus settings on the WA-C1 is turning the depth up pretty high and the rate really slow and low,” says session guitarist Mason Stoops (Jackson Browne, Lizzy McAlpine, Katy Perry). “It’s this cool sound that is almost felt rather than heard. Just being able to individually control the depth and rate gives you such a library of different sounds. On the vibrato side, I like that kind of seasick thing you get with aggressive settings, but even using a subtle amount of vibrato—just a little bit of pitch bending—produces a dramatic effect. Vibrato tends to be overlooked, but I think it’s really special.”
