As a stickler for wooden guitars, I usually have the same two-part response when checking out a new RainSong guitar—first, a dissonant reaction to its space-age construction, then marveling at its playability and sound. Auditioning the SMCX, the flagship model from the new Smokey series, proved no exception. Though the carbon used in the guitar’s manufacture might be more commonly found in spaceships and cars, it once again proves supremely musical.
