This week in A Tale of Two Tones the Ginger Elvis himself, Josh Homme... from an early pioneer of desert or 'stoner' rock and working with icons such as Iggy Pop and John Paul Jones, Josh Homme has carved out an incredible career to date and is still getting better - with a various guitar tones to match.
To name just a few, Josh Homme has been the song writing force behind Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures with his guitar playing being the forefront of their sounds for the past four decades now.
Known for having an eclectic taste in guitars and gear - not to mention the secrecy surrounding these! It was tough to nail down the exact gear used however, we have used this gear to capture the spirit of Josh Homme's tone.
To do this we have used a PRS S2 Singlecut Standard with a Friedman Dirty Shirley - covering those Marshall tones for the Kyuss/ early Queens of the Stone Age tone and to cover his later Queens of the Stone Age/ Them Crooked Vultures tone we have used a Gretsch G6118T-135 Pro with a Tone King Sky King - covering the Ampeg VT-40 tone that Homme has used throughout his career!
Let us know what you think of our efforts to tell the tale of Josh Homme's tones and please let us know who YOU want to see next in the series!
