Sometimes, a luthier will be hit with a bolt of inspiration and decide to create a one-of-a-kind instrument. At Winter NAMM, Dana Bourgeois unleashed a magical dreadnought (serial #7000) for the world to see, inspired by his collaboration with inlay artist Jaime Aulson. The guitar, made specifically for the NAMM show, features gorgeous quilted Brazilian rosewood back and sides, torrefied Adirondack spruce top and braces, curly mahogany neck, 42-style abalone purfling and rosette, inlaid fossil mammoth ivory bridge and heel cap, hide glue construction, engraved gold Waverly tuners, and, of course, a stunning custom Tree Of Life fretboard inlay.
