Phil X & The Drills Interview - Part 1- Guitar Secrets Revealed - Guitar Breakdown - Guitar Instruction and Breakdown
You've asked the questions ... and we got the answers. We were fortunate enough to sit down with the extremely inspiring Phil X. He was overwhelmingly generous with his time and his knowledge.
This video is part 1 in a series of ongoing interview sessions we will be having with Phil X. He has been wearing a guitar around his neck for many many years and with that comes a ton of experiences and lessons learned. In these interviews he shares with us everything from how he got started playing guitar ... how he went about practicing and learning guitar ... how he landed session gigs ... and a bunch of funny and informative stories about the gigs and tours he's been involved in. From Bon Jovi, Tommy Lee, Alice Cooper, Triumph, Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne, Chris Daughtry to his own projects like Powder and The Drills.
We hope you stick around for all the parts in this series of interview sessions with Phil X. There really is a lot of great information shared and more importantly ... IT'S FRIGGIN PHIL X !!! His amazingly unassuming personality and penchant for fun and laughter makes it pretty easy to just sit back and listen to this guy talk.
This guy is what all guitar players should aspire to be. To have an incredible proficiency with his instrument with everything from rhythm to lead playing and a complete command for composing songs and writing lyrics. But he never seems to get hung up or lost in the technicalities of it all. It just kind of flows out of his fingers. This is probably due to his years of sitting in front of a tv and playing "conquer the lick" ... followed by many more years of playing in clubs and doing session work in studios. And all of this is wrapped in a shell of ... just a nice guy who brings much laughter to the world.
If you haven't already ... head over to his bands website ...

And throw down your hard earned cash and get their CD's ... it's probably the best way you'll find to spend your money. But seriously, I'm a guy that listens to mostly rock/blues/fusion guitar CD's ... horn and piano players ... music that is less about song writing and more about me hearing and learning new ideas for my own guitar playing. But listening to Phil X and The Drills has brought me back down to earth ... grounded my feet once again and helped me back to why I started playing guitar in the first place. Listen to his music and you'll rediscover for yourself what most of us lose sight on ... and that's combining great guitar playing with great riffs and fun band oriented music.
