The boost on the ACS1 works a little differently than you might think. Because you can have two different amp and cab settings when running a stereo setup, the boost will adjust volume and gain proportionally as a percent.
After pressing the boost switch, turning the volume and gain knobs to zero is now equal to where the unboosted levels are set. Increasing the knobs will now boost your volume and gain by a percent of where your knobs were set.
Here's an example for you math fans, if your gain was set to 40%, that means you had 60% left of the gain knob. If you set the gain knob to zero then move it to the noon position, you have now increased the boost by half of what was left of the 60% of the gain knob (30%). So your boosted gain would now be at 70%.
