The Boss OS-2 allows you to shift between overdrive and distortion sounds, or blend them to your liking. It is possibly the best dirt box they produce, but it isn't without its problems.
With this modification you'll be able to really beef up the frequency response and give the distortion a more natural grunt, all great for sounding like you have a massive valve amp in a tiny yellow box.
