We had a lot of fun picking out the wood for this PRS 408. The top is a quilted maple 10 top. We took the time to select the very best cut of maple we could find, so this top comes very close to Artist Grade status. For neck and fretboard wood, we really let loose. Rather than the usual mahogany neck, we opted for a rock maple neck, which you won't see on other 408s. It has a natural, breathable feel that we absolutely love. The fretboard is tonally coveted Brazilian Rosewood, which is getting harder and harder to find on new and used guitars.
The PRS 408 is one of the best sounding guitars on the market, so we didn't change anything in terms of pickups or switching options. The bridge pickup is a bit wider than your average humbucker, and the neck pickup is a bit slimmer. This provides a broader tonal spectrum with clean highs, articulate mids and well defined lows. The two mini toggles are intact as well. Switch either pickup to single coil mode, and you'll hear the sound of a real single coil pickup, not a humbucker trying to sound like a single coil.
