Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com today we're putting the pedal to the metal with the Expression Overdrive, from Ernie Ball. The Expression Overdrive provides players with a warm, tube-like overdrive and a clean buffer with a hands-free blend function that doubles as the pedal's bypass. The amount of effect is controlled with the footpedal, with the heel-down position passing only a clean, buffered signal and the toe-down position feeding into the drive circuit. Easing the pedal downward puts you in hands-free control of the Expression Overdrive's mix control, for players that want only a touch of grit in their signal. The drive portion contains a wide-ranging Drive knob that gives you everything from crystalline chime to full-on tube-igniting crunch. With the Boost knob, the Expression Overdrive can add as much as six decibels of boost in the full toe-down position, putting some extra meat on the drive's bones. A separate Tone knob acts as a high-cut control to tailor the drive character for your amp or other pedals. The Expression Overdrive comes in a shell that's much smaller than the company's flagship volume pedals, plated with an attractive gold finish and outfitted with a PVC-coated Kevlar cord for extra durability, while the shell is also fully enclosed to protect the precious electronics that lie within. Each Ernie Ball Expression Overdrive is built to the same exacting specs that have kept Ernie Ball pedals on pro boards for decades.
