You may know Austin, Texas singer-songwriter, fiddler, and guitarist Carrie Rodriguez as the frequent collaborator of famed songwriter Chip Taylor, with whom she recorded four highly acclaimed duet albums, or her string of excellent, Americana-influenced solo albums like She Ain’t Me and Love & Circumstance.
Rodriguez latest project, the bilingual album Lola, is a leap in an exciting, new direction. Inspired by the 1940’s-era recordings of her great aunt, Chicana singing sensation Eva Garza, Rodriguez puts a Texas-twist on Mexican Ranchera songs — blending Spanish, English, and “Spanglish” in a way that speaks to her past and present.
Watch Rodriguez perform two songs off Lola — “Llano Estacado” and “La Última Vez” — accompanied by her music and life partner, guitarist Luke Jacobs.
