Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. Today, we're faking it with the Faux Tape Echo V2 from Wampler. The Faux Tape Echo is a highly-refined tape echo emulator that puts you in the drivers seat of a tape echo unit with a boatload of modern features. For starters, the Faux Tape Echo contains about 800 milliseconds of delay time, for ambient washes of echo that stretch far beyond normal tape units, which elevates tape echo from the land of slapback. Those of you who prefer their echoes to be murky and vintage sounding will love the Tone knob, which ranges from super dark and murky to very bright and percussive, delivering all flavors of tape delay throughout history. The Faux Tape Echo's modulation section lets you adjust intentional disrepair, from a brand new perfectly-aligned unit to a barely-functional one that was used as a studio doorstop since the '50s. The modulation circuit can be turned on or off by rolling the Rate & Depth to zero. Wampler has also added in a nifty Tap Tempo feature that lets you set the tempo hands-free, along with switchable tempo subdivisions, which allows you to tap in quarter notes, eighth notes, dotted eighth notes and triplets with ease. The Faux Tape Echo V2 also gives players little bonuses such as soft-touch relay-based true bypass switching, top-mounted jacks and 18-volt operation for higher headroom when placed at the end of the chain. And like all Wampler pedals, the Faux Tape Echo V2 is born and raised right here in the States.
