Today we’re staying the course with the True OverDrive 1 from Lunastone. Unlike almost every overdrive pedal out there, the TrueOverDrive 1 takes the science behind tube amps and adapts it to the humble stompbox. While other dirt boxes rely on diode clipping to artificially create the sound of breakup, the LunaStone TrueOverDrive system relies upon cascading gain stages which then compress naturally just like the tubes in your amp. Because there is no clipping anywhere in the signal path, all your dynamics remain intact throughout the signal path instead of being lopped off by a diode pair. Your signal is fed through a multitude of transistor networks that snowballs into a massive amount of gain. Because the signal is based on these cascading stages, the drive knob possesses an enormous range of amp-like gain, from light sparkle to amp-smashing growl. Though the knob has a large range of gain, the tone never jumps around, with a smooth, natural sweep throughout. The Tone control is designed to complement the drive circuit, giving you a high degree of versatility in just one knob. The TrueOverDrive 1’s knobs are arranged in a striking diagonal pattern that doubles as a platform for foot control. And just like all other LunaStone pedals, the TrueOverDrive 1 is equipped with primo parts and housed in a sexy but rugged enclosure.
