During my months-long obsession with the song Little Wing, I've developed a fascination with the very different feel of JImi's recording vs SRV's cover. SRV's cover is slower, more deliberate, and has lots of room for fancy chord embellishments. But Jimi's recording is faster, with an underlying R&B feel to the rhythm. You have to come back to those bass notes constantly, or it loses that sound. Considering my background (steeped in SRV's style), learning how to play chord embellishments that maintain Jimi's R&B feel at a higher tempo is not easy. I'm still getting used to it.
