Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. Next, we’re test-driving the Carrera, from Buffalo FX. The Carrera is an amp-enhancing gain box as well as a standalone low-gain generator that seamlessly combines with every other piece of gear that you own. Instead of imparting its will onto your rig, the Carrera shakes hands with your equipment and makes your amp sound better while keeping its hands off of your amp’s natural tone. The Carrera’s guiding principle is that the clean channel on many amps gently sucks out your lower and upper mids, and so the Carrera corrects this gentle scoop by adding these frequencies back in, rather than overtaking your signal with them. The result is a more balanced tone that pushes you into the front of the mix rather than bullying through it. Single notes leap out of the band mix with more definition and more dynamics, making the Carrera an ideal pedal for a creamy, vintage-style lead tone that makes no compromises in quality.Though it’s primarily a low-gain device, the Carrera has no problem pushing an amp into creamy breakup with a rich, full-bodied dose of dirt. In order to better match the Carrera to your existing rig, Buffalo has included two passive tone knobs to attenuate both treble and bass frequencies to let your amp shine. And just like all Buffalo effects, the Carrera is hand-made using high-quality, low noise parts in France.
