Ovation fans were understandably disappointed when the company shut down its U.S. operations in 2014. But things are now back in full swing at the old factory, in New Hartford, Connecticut. The Adamas line is in production, as are the Custom Legend USA and Elite lines.
At the 2017 Summer NAMM show in Nashville, Tennessee, Ovation displayed the Glen Campbell Signature Model—a recreation of the singer-songwriter’s 1771 acoustic-electric guitar. Campbell played this flagship guitar on his television show in the 1970s, and this helped put Ovation on the map.
The new instrument sports a grade-AA solid Sitka spruce top and a five-piece maple/mahogany neck. It captures many of the details on the original model, like a shallow bowl, designed for a strong mid-range presence and clear high end, and 1970s-style electronics, including a pickup six individual piezo sensors, along with an FET preamp. The Glen Campbell Signature Model sells with a deluxe molded case for $1499.
