I picked up a new power amp and a new 2x12 guitar cabinet and wanted to see how the Axe-Fx does with this setup. I've been primarily using an FRFR setup for a while and I also really enjoy the power amp + guitar cabinet setup for a more amp in the room sound and feel. Lots of fun when you're just jamming in the basement. Shows the versatility of the Axe even more.
I hadn't found much information on this particular Carvin F600 power amp on the internet, but so far I'm very impressed. It is loud and clean. It is a little heavy and has a fan that contributes to a little room noise. But for this application I really dig it. Perhaps not as pristine as the higher end Matrix offerings, but not too far off.
And the new cabinet is really fantastic so far. I've always had this tiny little boxy 1x12 that I never loved. It is what looks to be a Deluxe Reverb enclosure that was recovered and rewired for 2 12" speakers to run independently at 8 ohms or together in series at 16 ohms. It currently has a WGS Green Beret and a WGS WT-65 - a very nice combination. More to come of this setup for sure!
I am running the Axe-Fx with no cabinet block into the F600 into the 2x12 at 16 ohms. Micing the Green Beret with an AKG C214 into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 into Reaper.
