Today, we're taking a ride with the Avalanche Run by EarthQuaker Devices. The Avalanche Run marks EarthQuaker's first entry into a high-powered DSP platform, giving players a supercharged delay and reverb hybrid. Virtually every parameter available in the world of spatial time-based effects is offered up and adjustable. A toggle switch in the center selects the mode of operation: Reverse, Normal or Swell. One the mode is selected, the sound can be fine-tuned with two mix knobs. The topmost Mix control adjusts the wet and dry balance of the delay signal, and the bottom Mix control adjusts the reverb level. The reverb algorithm is voiced to emulate classic plate reverb, the kind found on every classic rock record ever cut. The Avalanche Run truly excels in the control department, featuring a handful of tap tempo subdivisions and expression control, adjustable to almost every parameter. One extremely innovative feature of the EXP knob is the ability to control the toggle switch to seamlessly glide between the Normal and Reverse modes. The Avalanche Run also features true stereo ins and outs for signal routing junkies, as well as momentary oscillation blasts by holding the tap footswitch. And like all EarthQuaker Devices, the Avalanche Run is built atop a treacherous black diamond ski piste in Akron Ohio.
