So what is the Fairfield Shallow Water? In techy terms it’s a k-field modulator, a unique modulation device, which takes your classic analog chorus/flanger/vibrato affair and fuses it with randomised pitch fluctuations and a low-pass filter gate. In Stefan terminology it’s a portal to the past that sees your tone sway, dance and quiver as if played through a dusty old tape recorder.
If you need clean, pristine and predictable modulation, then this pedal isn’t for you. But if you’re like me and prefer pedals that practically take on a life of their own and impart your melodies with bucket loads of nostalgia, then you absolutely need to dip your tone in the Shallow Water right now.
