Best known for its amplification products, Mississippi's Peavey also has a line of acoustic instruments that is worth getting to know. At this year's NAMM show, Peavey's Michael Smith took the time to give us a tour through the various options. Now part of the Peavey family, Composite Acoustics is still going strong. The carbon-fiber Cargo model is a "guilt-free" instrument that is impervious to changes in climate and humidity. Smith also displays the entry-level DW line: The DW-1 (passive piezo pickup) and DW-2 (active electronics with built-in tuner) both have laminated spruce tops with mahogany bodies, while the DW-3 boasts a solid spruce top and rosewood back and sides. We also check out the Composer series of instruments, which includes a six-string guitalele and a resonator guitar.
