Here is another one by King's X, but this time I play over a backing track for the song that I had made several years ago in my home studio. Drums played by my friend Tim. I got a little indulgent at the end and threw down an improvisation.
I did some processing of the guitar at mix down this time. Just a little EQ and a stereo spread.
Gear is same as before, Egnater Rebel 20 juiced up by a T-Rex Moller Overdrive. Mesa/Boogie 2x12 cab, t.c.electronic Hall of Fame Reverb and an MXR Carbon Copy for the lead. Cab mic'd with a Shure SM-57 and an MXL V69.
The always true yellow Fender 1988 Stratocaster with a telecaster neck and Kinman pickups. I don't really chase Ty Tabor's tone, this is just my every day sound. My pickup wiring allows me to add in the neck pickup to the bridge pickup via the second tone knob, so I bring that in just a bit (about 20% neck pickup dialed in with the bridge). Gives it a little more of the strat springiness along with some bottom end that I do find reminiscent of Ty's early sound (without really 'nailing' it). You can see also in the performance that I am able to roll down the volume knob and get a bright crunchy sound.
