Welcome to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. Today we’re diving into the waves of the MD-500 from Boss. Boss’s modulation pedals have always been at the head of the class, and the MD-500 contains 12 modes from Boss’s labs, giving you a large palette of the tastiest modulation circuits boss has ever cooked up, from its classic Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Vibrato and Tremolo to unique offerings such as Ring Mod and Rotary, and even Boss’s originals such as the Overtone and Slicer modes. Each mode has deep editing capabilities beyond the surface knobs across several submodes, featuring classic modulation circuits such as the CE-1 Chorus Ensemble, Dimension-D and ‘70s Script Phaser algorithms lurking within. The large LCD screen dramatically increases user-friendliness and helps you navigate the menus with ease, and couples with the dedicated global controls, the MD-500 couldn’t be easier to dial in. Once you’ve dialed in the sounds to your liking, you can save them to any one of 297 user patches. Boss’s free MD-500 Editor and Librarian software keeps the patches organized and precisely dialed, while the handy footswitches let you cycle through banks and presets at will. The back panel of the MD-500 gives you true stereo ins and outs for your modulating pleasure, along with a control port that accepts an expression pedal or remote footswitch and a USB port that gives the MD-500 a seat at the DAW. MIDI ins and outs let you synchronize the MD-500 to a master timepiece or other MIDI-equipped gear for advanced setup. And just like all Boss pedals, the MD-500 is built with the same Boss quality that has kept them in the game for over 40 years.
