Last week I reported on the raid of the UK offices of Fender, Yamaha, Roland, Korg, and Casio. These musical instrument manufacturers had been accused by an unnamed German entity of being involved in "price fixing" and were reported to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in Britain. The Telegraph first reported the story, pointing out that the CMA can enter a business in the UK and seize evidence without warrants. In this video we'll explore why these companies have been accused of wrongdoing and what German entity might be doing the accusing. One viewer to the channel has suggested the complainant was Thomann, the German retailer and distributor of brands like Framus, Warwick, and Harley Benton. We'll also look at the actual law these firms have been accused of breaking and explore what are manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRP), minimum advertised prices (MAP), and what is meant by retail price maintenance (RPM).
