We met up with Javier Reyes at the NAMM 2015 ESP booth. In case you're not familiar with Animals as Leaders, Javier is one of the most unique and creative players out there. Think 8 string fingerpicked metal. His new signature guitars from ESP, the JR-608 and the JR-208, are solid, well-crafted 8 strings that thrive in every EQ range - not just the bottom end.

This Javier Reyes signature model features neck-thru-body construction, which works wonders for the sustain and provides an exquisitely comfortable neck heel. The top is a beautiful cut of figured maple. Electronically, this axe is decked out with Reyes' signature DiMarzio pickups. These little devils are hot and focused but also quite responsive and full-range, perfect for laying down heavy leads and then backing off. At 27", the scale is longer than normal to keep the extra low string from sounding flabby. It also provides some extra room for intricate passages up high.
