The Jackson Ampworks El Guapo tube amplifier was created to sound like a Marshall bass amp from the 60's originally. But don't be put off by that description. What they actually made was an amp that can sound like an original JTM, a JMP Plexi and a mode that includes their own JXN tones - and believe me this amp really defines those tones. It is brilliant for classic rock, modern rock, blues and even metal! And you CAN control the volumes on this amp.
But the El Guapo goes much further than many other amps. I check inside this amplifier and show the incredible quality that Jackson Ampworks include inside this amplifier - it's likely you have never seen it inside, but it's worth taking a look. After looking inside the amp I then move on to it's features (front and back of the amp) and then show ultimately the tones that this amp can produce Plexi style and more.
When I was reviewing this amplifier I could see that these guys had spent serious time in developing this guitar amp. Scarily it does not have hundreds of videos on YouTube, just a few what I might call promotional videos and none really going in to any depth, which at the very least is a pity.
It's not for the feint of heart, but this amp has loads of features that make this a really great buy. This one listed at $2600 (or £2600 in the UK) but I got it for just £1395 ($1600). This is likely one of those 'sleeper' amps that is out there. I'm not entirely sure what's going on at Jackson Ampworks but everything on their site is 'out of stock' but hey, don't let that put you off... it's worth watching this review make no mistake.
Find out about this wonderful amp and whether it really does get that plexi tones and more.
This is one of those tube amplifiers that I have kept since I created this review back in 2018 and that's always a good sign. For amps that are generally not always what they are claimed I often sell them later. But here are amps like this one that I have no intention of selling because they are probably now so rare and that will only get more so over time. That's a real pity... just try one if you love the JTM, The Plexi or something even more driven - its all in this amp.
This review does not always get as many views as it should, and that's generally because the brand is not really established (at least here in the UK) from what I see, but had things been different, I'm pretty sure that the Jackson Ampworks were really on to something with this little beauty. Check it out and feel free to ask me any questions you want about this amp.
