Watch Jake as he assembles a PRS Acoustic.
After a guitar is finished and cured, it arrives in Final Assembly. Here the guitar will be checked over again to make sure there are no quality issues (finish scratches, finish lifting, etc.), and then the guitar can be assembled. Typically, the bridge is addressed first. This includes fitting the saddle and reaming the pin holes. These steps are fundamentally important to the tone of the instrument. By taking care to fit the pegs and the saddle correctly and maximize contact points, the bridge becomes the anchor of the guitar's tone. Through this anchor point, the string's vibrations and the tone of the wood resonate while complimenting and reinforcing each other. Filing the saddle smooth also ensures that the strings do not wear down or break. Next, our proprietary tuning pegs are installed and the guitar is strung. After stretching the strings and tuning the guitar, the action and intonation are checked. If the string height is off, the nut will be filed until they sit correctly. With the guitar properly setup, the assembler will play it and check it over once more before it is cased and given to Paul to playtest.
