Welcome back to Friends Pick Friday, and today we have Darci Carlson in the shop - a local WA raised outlaw country artist with great tunes and matching style! Her performance is accurately described as "delivering an energy packed performance with a lived-in voice that is both aggressive and smokey-sweet... music that punctuates like the aftertaste of a fine whiskey." We've got her in the shop today to talk current and upcoming projects, as well as take a couple of really fantastic acoustic guitars for a spin, all of which are from the 20's and 30's!
Starting off with the oldest instrument, we have a 1920s Oahu 68K - an ornate pre-war instrument that started life as a square-neck slide guitar, but was converted to a round neck for conventional playing. Then we have a 1930s Tonk Bros Washburn Model 5238 - a beautiful body with ivroid binding, rosewood back and sides, and a spruce top adorned with a very cool and very 30's design. Last but certainly not least, we have a 1933 Gibson L-00 - a tuxedo look over x-bracing, this one has an elevated fretboard and a nice vintage v-shaped neck. Each one of these guitars sound both fantastic and unique from one another, with each chosen by Darci for the songs she wanted to perform.
