Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com, today we're playing in the style of "D" with the Special Request from Greer Amps. The Special Request offers a deconstructed pure boost pedal derived from the "FET" input from a series of not-so-humbly priced boutique amplifiers. The FET input on these amplifiers offers a preamp circuit between the guitar and the first gain stage, creating a musical preamp that tonechasers have lusted over for decades. Aside from sounding great, the Special Request just feels right, because it gives players gentle compression and some textural enhancement, just like plugging directly into a real tube amp. With one knob, the Special Request has one simple control: amount, which pushes through any amp or pedal that sits in its path, pumping your entire rig full of D-style tone. One area the Special Request shines in is stacking with other gain-based pedals. When coupled with any number of dirt boxes, the Special Request holds its own by creating a more focused and dynamic tone. And perhaps best of all, the Special Request is made one at a time by Greer's team in Athens, GA.
