Today we're adrift on the seas of the Catalina chorus, by Seymour Duncan. The Catalina is a super-engineered stereo analog chorus that deviates from the typical "rate-depth" formula and offers several controls found nowhere else. A Dynamic toggle in the center of the Catalina dictates Hard or Soft dynamics, which translates to the character of the chorus dependent on picking strength. In Hard mode, the Depth of the effect increases with picking strength. In Soft mode, the Depth increases with softer picking, which really brings out the potential for sparkling quiet parts in any song. In both modes, the Threshold control acts as a fine sensitivity adjustment for either mode, so players can write entire songs around the Dynamic mode. For players wanting a standard chorus, this mode can be disabled using the Expression footswitch. The Mix knob is actually capable of a 3 dB boost when fully maxed, while the Tone knob can compensate for bright pickups or amps with a low pass filter. The Delay knob controls the amount of distance and ultimately affects the depth and warble of the modulation. When in stereo, you can easily dial in a 60ms doubling effect for some serious spatial exploration. Like all Seymour Duncan's pedals and pickups, the Catalina is manufactured at Seymour Duncan's facility in California, USA.
