Known by many as the “Segovia of Surf,” Toulouse Engelhardt is a master of fingerstyle guitar. The youngest member of the “Takoma Seven,” he was mentored by none other than John Fahey, who recognized Engelhardt’s amazing combination of speed, soul, and dexterity. Engelhardt’s music is an exciting, virtuosic amalgam of musical styles, ranging from blues and folk to classical and surf.
On a recent trip to the Bay Area, Engelhardt stopped by the Acoustic Guitar studios to talk about Fahey, fingerpicks, and his new instrumental album, Mind Gardens. He also displays his unbelievable proficiency on 12-string guitar with a pair of mind-blowing fingerstyle romps. For fans of musicians like Fahey, Leo Kottke, and Robbie Basho, Engelhardt represents the next link in the chain.
