Bay Area guitarist Jeremy Von Epp played a classic metal track with a Multi-Watt Dual Rectifier and 2x12 Recto cabinet to showcase the Vintage and Modern modes for rock rhythm and solo sounds.
The track opens with the Vintage mode of Ch. 2 set with medium Gain (12:00) and an overall warmer, more compressed tone with thicker mids. This tone compliments Ch.3’s Modern mode when the track is doubled, as well as delivering a smoother, vocal lead tone during the solo. The Vintage mode also feels juicier and more full and round when playing singles notes and the added midrange helps the solo stand out in the mix.
Ch. 3 was set to 100 watts and delivers the classic Rectifier Modern high gain. More bite and cut in high frequencies combines with a wide, sub low-frequency response that still stops on a dime while blending with the bass and kick drum.
Recorded with the a ’79 Dean V with Seymour Duncan JB bridge pickup into the Multi-Watt Dual Recto with 6L6s through a 2x12 Rectifier Standard cabinet with Celestion Vintage 30s. Mic’d with a Shure SM57 and a Shure KSM313 and mixed 50% SM57 and 50% KSM 313.
