As guitar players and bassists we've all asked ourselves at one time, "How do I set up my own guitar?". Almost immediately after we have that thought we are faced with the sometimes intimidating scenario of adjusting the truss rod on our instrument. Much mystery and trepidation surrounds this sometimes enigmatic rod. Whole repair businesses are based around player's lack of knowledge on the subject. In reality, most guitar players are more comfortable paying someone to make these adjustments on their axe so they don't run the risk of ruining their own instrument. While it is true that there are plenty of circumstances when a novice should never work on the neck of instrument ( a vintage Gibson guitar comes to mind ), we can all make small adjustments on our guitars and basses so that they play more to our liking. We hope this video gives you knowledge and confidence to get i there and get tweaking a little. If you have never made a truss rod adjustment before, start slow and maybe on a guitar that doesn't cost a million dollars.
