The Catalinbread Galileo and Sabbra Cadabra are two new analog offerings that go after the signature sounds of two guitar gods. Although they have two completely different styles, both Brian May and Tony Iommi were believers in pairing a British tube amp with an early form of overdrive known as the treble booster. Probably the most important thing to remember when talking about replicating both Iommi and May’s tones is that these guys weren’t turning off and on their treble boosters during songs, they just used their volume controls on their guitars. Following the same dynamic approach, Catalinbread have taken two foundation overdrives and paired them with a modded Naga Viper treble booster. Like the first Galileo, the MKII delivers classic Vox jangle and soaring leads with an AC30 preamp circuit that uses JFETs instead of tubes. The Sabbra Cadabra goes after Tony Iommi’s legendary tone, a modified Rangemaster Treble Booster driving the massive Laney Supergroup amp.
