The Marshmallow is armed with a pair of pitch shifters that modulate and interact is ways that can sometimes be hard to describe with normal guitar adjectives. Alexander’s NEO series means there’s a lot of power behind the candy coating but that doesn’t mean it’s hard to operate. 6 Modes are accessed with the press of a button, taking you from modulation effects to Arpeggiations, Random pitches, Ring mod, Dynamic pitch shift and Cloud which combines pitch and dizzying delay. Each control assumes a different role in every mode. The Mod for example, starts controlling depth in Mod mode but also dials the fourth interval in Arpy mode, envelope sensitivity in Dyna mode and feedback in Cloud mode. Like other pedals in the NEO series, Alt functions are accessed by holding the center button and turning the knob. After you’re done tweaking, you can store 4 presets or 16 if using a MIDI controller such as the Q Connect from Disaster Area. Last but not least, you can manipulate your gooey, shifting sounds, with either an expression pedal or the momentary footswitch to morph from one setting to the next.
