Hi, it's Andy with ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com and today we're squeezing the Pulp N Peel V4 Compressor/Preamp from JHS Pedals. The Pulp N Peel began as an exploration of a certain citrus-inspired compressor, and the heart of the circuit remains the same, but JHS has added a ton more features over the years, culminating the the V4. The newest iteration is the most ambitious to date. Notable additions include a new tilt-style EQ knob, which boosts lows and cuts highs left-of-center, and boosts highs and cuts lows when set right-of-center. A new Dirt toggle kicks on a layer of thick grit, and the level of this toggle is set by using a trimpot on the right side. Also found on that side is a new buffer switch, which restores any tone loss experienced by extensive cable lengths. In addition to standard input and output jacks, JHS has upped the stakes by adding an DI out with an XLR jack (with ground lift, transforming the Pulp N Peel into a DI channel strip for either bass or acoustic guitar. Of course, the Pulp N Peel adds a characteristic transparent compression to the tone at all settings, and no setting seems a hair out of place. Perhaps best of all, each Pulp N Peel is made by real human hands in the USA.
