Blues Saraceno Guitar Lesson - Arpeggio Licks Phrasing - Part 2 of 3 - Guitar Instruction and Breakdown - How To Play
Thanks for checking out another one of our guitar lessons. This time I'm excited to breakdown a few licks and concepts from one of my favorite guitar players ... the awesome Blues Saraceno.
This guy kills it every time he plays. He always has super amazing tone and a huge library of chops ... from awesome fast legato and picking licks to his great arpeggio ideas and always interesting rhythm playing. But to me his best asset as a guitar player is that he always serves the song.
He focuses more on melody, tone, phrasing ... as opposed to licks and impressive technique. This is the true sign of a mature guitar player. And Blues Saraceno has had these traits since I first heard him back in the late 80's when he released his first solo CD. During a time when new up and coming guitar players were popping up 10 at a time, every week ... mostly on the shrapnel label ... Blues came around and stood out of that large pack due to his mature playing, tone and sense of song writing.
Now don't get me wrong ... there is a time and place for shred. And if you are in a band like racer X or death medal ... or even some fusion or heavy rock ... maybe melody and phrasing aren't at the height of importance. Although ... even in those types of music, melody and phrasing is somewhat considered. But what Mr. Blues Saraceno brought to the table during a time of ... "look how fast I can play" and "look at this cool technique or lick" kind of playing ... was something extremely unique for the time. And then when he did decide to wow us with his mind blowing chops and technique by popping it in between great melodic lines ... it was all the more impressive.
This is probably why he has, in recent years ... be a highly sought after producer and studio guitarist for TV and Film.
If you are not familiar with Blues Saraceno ... I would advise (highly) to head over to cd baby or iTunes and pick up all three of his solo CD's ...

... you won't stop listening and learning from them for a long time. There are such great grooves to all his songs and again, as I've mentioned several times already - TONE TONE TONE - it is just awesome. He is so tone conscious that he has been heavily involved with his father in the creation of some amazing pedals and amps ... check out ...

And if all that wasn't enough ... he has played with some of the biggest acts, from Poison to Ginger Baker.

As for this guitar lesson, we are going to breakdown some licks and concepts from his song Before The Storm off of his debut CD called Never Look Back. There are a bunch of great ideas, from a cool way to sequence arpeggios to some really nice melodic phrasing. And it's just REALLY fun to play.
