Welcome back to ProGuitarShop.com, today we're digging into the SFT, from Catalinbread. Based on Ampeg's guitar amp line, the newly-remodeled SFT gives players the same level of touch sensitivity and warm, tube-like overdrive as its predecessor. The new SFT features a dual-mode design that covers the range of classic Ampeg amps from the late 60's SVT through the VT40 and VT22. The dual-mode switch atop the pedal toggles between stones and stoner mode. Stones mode, of course, is based upon the huge "not quite clean, not quite dirty" sound of a high-headroom Ampeg clean tone, sparkly enough to bring an audience to its knees. This mode interplays extremely well with picking strength and guitar volume. Or, paint it black with stoner mode, which completely reconfigures the pedal into a Desert Sessions riff machine, capable of peeling the paint from your airbrushed van. With independent treble and bass controls, the SFT plays equally well with both guitar and bass, and is capable of running at up to 18 volts for loads of extra headroom. And like all Catalinbread pedals, each SFT is hand-made by real people in Portland Rock City.
