http://www.guitarBreakdown.com/ - We are back with Part 2 of our Lesson based on the Guitar Solo that completely changed my Musical Life and one that I personally consider to be the Best Blues Guitar Solo Ever !!! A Guitar solo by the one and only Larry Carlton from his Album Last Nite ... live at the Baked Potato. This song called The BP Blues and pretty much all the songs on this Album are mini masterpieces in Dynamics and Harmonic exploration ... and the fact that it all happened live (with the exception of a few horn parts added later in editing/mixing) is pretty incredible ... talk about all musicians being in the zone at the same time!
Learning this Guitar Solo and many of the others on this Album changed my way of viewing the possibilities of Guitar Playing and redirected my musical education in way that was completely different from the path I had been on for so many years Prior.
I talked about it in part one of this Lesson ... but at the time ... I was attending Music School and I was neck deep into 80's bands and Guitarists like Steve Vai, Van Halen, Whitesnake, Ratt and Warren DeMartini, Danger Danger and Andy Timmons, White Lion and Vito Bratta, Racer-X and Paul Gilbert and Bruce Bouillet, Dokken and Lynch Mob and George Lynch, Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora ... then there were all the Shrapnel Guys like Shawn Lane and Jason Becker, Vinnie Moore, Greg Howe, Richie Kotzen. And the list goes on for days ... it was an amazing time for rock guitar!
So you could see my limited view on music at that point was pretty much 80's rock (and some Classical because that is what I had been studying up to that point in college). But within the first week of being at music school I was introduced to so many amazing Jazz and Fusion artists (not just Guitar Players but Sax players as well) ... and my world began to quickly expand. And of course I was introduced to all the great Musicians Institute Instructors like Howard Roberts, Ted Greene, Don Mock, Steve Travato, Scott Henderson ... and again the list goes on.
But nothing changed my world quite like this Live recording by Larry Carlton!
