This is a test to see what kind of difference adding a dedicated external preamp will make if you have a Scarlett 2i2 interface compared to solely using its internal preamp. I will have 3 comparisons 1) Vocal using an AKG C214 mic 2) Acoustic using an AKG C214 mic 3) Electric guitar amp using an SM57.
When using the Scarlett 2i2 I am in the Line In setting with the gain at about 50%. When using the 73 I set its preamp gain to about 50%. Post gain is very low. It runs into the input on the 2i2. The 2i2's gain control is set to minimum. The 2i2 doesn't have a way to bypass its preamp entirely.
In post production I only attempted to normalize volume levels. No compression or EQ.
Time Stamps:
0:00 - 2i2 Vocal
0:53 - 73 Vocal
1:36 - 2i2 Acoustic
2:10 - 73 Acoustic
2:46 - 2i2 Electric
3:16 - 73 Electric
