The Mesa Rosette 300 Acoustic Combo offers a professional feature set and a wide range of compatibility with nearly acoustic instruments, pickups and mics. While the feature set extends beyond basics, the pure, complete tone that results from familiarizing yourself with the controls and finding the sweet spots for your instrument(s) is well worth a few minutes. Great acoustic amplification provides inspiration for your songwriting, recording, and live performance. And, the Rosette’s versatility allows you to adapt the amp as your styles, instruments, and musical interests grow and change.
The video begins with the Parametric Mid EQ section and introduces the “W Pattern” on the Low and High Mid Frequency and Gain controls. This is probably the most important setting to start with, especially if auditioning the amp in a quiet, solo playing environment. Scooping the mids with the “W Pattern” will create a more inviting and bouncing tone and feel and is the most commonly preferred starting point with nearly all acoustic instruments. As always, dial to taste once in the ballpark with this setting as instruments, pickups and styles vary the response significantly, especially in the acoustic realm.
The next settings suggestions focuses on lower frequencies with the Bass control, Hi-Pass Filter and the Gain control. Bass is something to set to taste once your mids are dialed in. If you’re experiencing feedback or lack of clarity in low frequencies, you can reduce the Gain control and/or increase the HI-Pass control. Since higher Gain settings increase low-frequency bloom, Gain can be a good place to start, although Hi-Pass is a quick-and-easy check to solve excess Bass frequency or feedback concerns.
Last, but not least, the Phase Switch can be a secret weapon for dialing in your sound to a room or, optimizing pickup phase with the amp’s output. Sometime’s subtle, the Phase Switch is well worth experimenting with at the beginning OR end of any new room or session and selecting the position that sounds best for the space.
