If you want to build a home recording studio, extension or in fact any other outdoor building then be prepared for aggravation! Others might tell you it's a simple task, but there are many pitfalls and not just in the bricks and mortar part of the whole process. You might even opt for a rented building somewhere, but part 2 and 3 will even help you to complete everything.
Evil Owl Studios was originally a concept I had back in 1993 and in 1995 myself and some friends built the studio; and that comprised of a control room and recording room. But it became too small in about 2016 and in 2021 to 2022 I decided to extend it much further. Many things had changed since back in 1995 and I soon learned about that but at my expense! Hopefully this video series will help you.
Firstly (in the UK) I needed a building plan and local council planning permission which I obtained after a number of months. Then there was the build of the studio itself... be prepared for trouble! But this real life experience might just help you to end up with what you are paying for. See the points and different problems I encountered as the building extension proceeded and my best advice? Trust no one involved.
Ultimately it is possible to create a recording studio (whether home studio or any other building such as business offices with the right planning permissions) and make your dream become real; this series is here to show you what happened in my case. The other two parts are so valuable if you are building a home or maybe pro recording setup and each part stands up in it's own right for every subject covered so be sure to check them all out. My favorite is part 3 I have to say as it shows the dream became reality. You might like any of these different parts of the video series because they are really different tasks relating to the overall completion of the project.
Evil Owl Studios is now complete and overall the money was well spent, simply because the outside premises do add to the value of the property and the studio ultimately with the right permissions could almost be used for anything.
The studio by the way is not used commercially and I only record friends these days but that's great fun and you could learn from these videos and apply any of what I have learned to your own home recording studio setup... and if you do I wish you well.
Consider visiting the Evil Owl Studios YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/c/EvilOwlStudios and I would really appreciate a sub, thumbs up and ring the bell with that important 'ALL' option. BTW I don't send out many more than maybe one notice a week generally so no aggro with that issue.
I have spent considerable time creating this video entirely at my own expense and completely without sponsoring - the ONLY way to make a truthful video!
I don't use pro tools but you could make a pro home studio with this home studio setup; don't involve true sound studios and its not a Scott Mckenna vlog. Later in part 2 you see Presonus Studio Live 32, Studio One Pro and lots of outboard equipment, the PC and I offer many tips and tricks.
PLEASE SUBSCRIBE, RING THE BELL, AND THUMBS UP -AND CHOOSE THE 'ALL' BUTTON (or you won't receive notifications about new reviews!) to give my channel a boost and thank you for watching - I hope the video is enjoyable.
