Dann Huff We Three Kings Guitar Lesson - Part 2 of 2 - Guitar Instruction and Breakdown
We are back with another awesome Dann Huff Guitar lesson. This is the second solo from the christmas CD called "Light Jazz Christmas". The first solo that we did a lesson on ...
http://bit.ly/T39mbB
... was the solo from Angels We Have Heard On High. That solo was a little more jazz or blues like. It had some great little chromatic ideas and an amazing feel to it ... a great study in dynamics.
This solo is from the song called We Three Kings. It is a lot more aggressive ... a lot more rock. It starts with a great tapping sequence and ends with a really great chromatic type idea and some screaming bends. This is a short solo and a relatively short lesson but it is filled with many great ideas that you should be able to immediately incorporate into your own playing. At the end of this lesson (the end of part 2) I discuss ways to begin taking some of the simple concepts and get it working in your own improvisation.
Dann Huff is guitar royalty. He was one of the most sought after session guitar players in Los Angeles in the 80's. Then he moved to Nashville and did session work into the 90's on tons of country and pop albums. He has played and recorded with almost every top artist. He can be heard on recordings from Michael Jackson, Whitesnake, Whitney Houston, Michael Bolton, Michael W. Smith, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Country greats such as Faith Hill, Amy Grant, Reba McvEntire and many many more. He also had his own band White Heart and the most amazing band Giant.
Dann Huff is know for his amazing guitar tone ... his impeccable phrasing and his one of a kind feel. He adds unique subtleties to everything he plays. I would choose to listen to Dann Huff play the same three notes over and over again ... as opposed to the greatest fusion guy playing the coolest chromatic lines any day. That's not to say I don't love listening to the latter ... but that is just how much I love hearing Dann Huff play.
Unfortunately for all of us Dann Huff fans ... he doesn't do much recording anymore. He has been a big time producer for a long time now.
Enough praising the man (although he deserves much more then two paragraphs of praise).
To hear Dann Huff play this amazing solo (without my less then perfect guitar playing over his) just go to the following link.
