If your guitar hums pretty bad whenever you are not touching metal or the strings, then shielding can be a useful way to reduce noise that comes from this kind of interference. I lined the pickup control cavity with aluminum foil and used a spray on adhesive to make it stick. This is a quick before and after. In the before video basically nothing is shielded. In the after I shielded the control cavity and the rear of the pickguard. This is not a full faraday cage as the underside of the pickup cavity is not shielded.
