Explanation of the concepts involved in fret-leveling.
Yes, yes, yes, we know that we didn't show the processes all the way through. And we know that this video doesn't teach you how to level frets. That wasn't the point, and that information is available from many other sources (though be careful, because there's a lot of bad information out there, like the comment on this very video from the guy advising you to just whack the high frets with a rubber mallet -- flunk. Don’t take your guitar to this guy).
This video does not show the processes, though they are discussed. Its purpose was not to show you how to level frets on your guitar. It was simply intended to illustrate *why* fret leveling is needed, and to explain why guitars with low frets will have more buzzing in some areas of the fretboard than in others. We think this video shows very clearly where fret problems existed on this particular neck (which was from a brand-new guitar, by the way), and what needed to be done about it.
And we hope that this will provide a clearer understanding of the “fret buzz” problem, and its solution, to those folks who were not previously familiar with the concepts of fret-leveling. This should enable them to identify problems with their own guitars, and to speak more knowledgeably about the topic with repair techs and other people.
