An industry leader when it comes to FX, there aren't many of us who haven't had one of BOSS' colourful stompboxes on our boards at some stage in our playing careers. With more iconic tones to their name than most pedal companies could even dream of, BOSS have been in the game for a long time and know a thing or two about designing quality effects! In case you couldn't tell, we're really big fans of theirs, so we got pretty excited when we heard about their latest multi-FX and modelling unit, the BOSS GT-1000.
The GT series has always set a high standard when it comes to modelling and multi-FX and the latest model in the range continues their legacy with some pretty exciting new features. Sleeker and sturdier than ever, the GT-1000 looks fantastic when you take it out of the box and we were impressed with its solid feeling build. The next thing you notice is the connectivity options on offer, which are plentiful, with MIDI and USB making it a great option for a home studio setup. Along with this, 1/4” jack and balanced XLR outputs mean it'll fit in just as well in a live environment and it also makes use of Bluetooth connectivity to allow you to tweak and edit your tones without even having to touch the hardware.
Now, on to the sounds themselves! Giving you a massive amount of tones and effects to dig into, we felt like BOSS had hit the nail on the head as soon as we plugged into the GT-1000. Immediately improving upon previous models, there's a great authentic sounding vibe to this unit that's evident from the first time you try it out. This can most likely be attributed to the addition of AIRD (Augmented Impulse Response Dynamics) technology which was expressly designed to replicate the feel and dynamic touch that a guitarist experiences when playing through a quality tube amp. We can testify that BOSS have done a phenomenal job and there really is a great amp in the room feel to the GT-1000 that we reckon even the most discerning audiophiles would struggle to criticise! It's effects cover pretty much every playing style you can think of too and we particularly enjoyed experimenting with some of the lush, ethereal, ambient sounds that just sound stunning. That said, we also had plenty of fun playing through the equally great sounding drives, distortions and modulation effects and even the clean tones on these have a lovely sparkle to them.
All things considered, this one unit gives you a ton of tonal variety, so if you're one of those players who can never perfect their pedalboard, or can't stop chopping and changing, the BOSS GT-1000 is quite possibly the choice for you. Offering pretty much everything you'd need as a guitarist to a very high standard, this unit has taken the GT ranges lineage and added the perfect selection of new features, effects and tones to make it a fantastic upgrade. We had a blast plugging into the GT-1000 and experimenting and we'd encourage all of you guys to drop by your local store and do the same. This is a seriously impressive and reasonably priced bit of kit that's well worthy of a demo!
