Grace Askew was too good for a TV reality show singing competition. That’s why the swaggering 27-year-old singer didn’t take home first prize when she appeared on Season Four of The Voice, delivering a show-stopping “These Boots were Made for Walking.”
No matter. The Memphis native has since released a terrific new album, Scaredy Cat, which she recorded back home at Sun Studio, and then hit the road on a tour that brought her style of bluntry (blues + country) to the San Francisco Bay Area back in August.
We were thrilled to catch Askew’s show at 50 Mason Social House, and even more thrilled when she lugged her Godin archtop and shiny Dean resonator into the AG studio for a performance and interview. Now, we’re offering that episode up to you.
We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate Thanksgiving than by saying… Grace.
