When you think of counterculture and long jams, the Grateful Dead is at the top of the list. Known for their live shows and extremely loyal fanbase affectionately known as "deadheads," the Dead have been pushing the envelope since the late-1960s. Of course the band looks a little different today with the addition of John Mayer and the formation of Dead and Company, but the spirit still lives on.
We decided to poke around on the title track from the 1978 record that shares the same name, Shakedown Street. This is in the era where synthesizers and envelope filters reigned supreme on the Grateful Dead's gear list. From the tight chord voicings from Bob Weir and the signature lead lines that could only be played by Jerry Garcia, hear how it all fits together in our exclusive zZounds video!
