This is my new 3 week old (from the store that had it hanging around for a year) Gibson SG Custom. Every single tuner was pulling away from the headstock and needed to be tightened. One of them so bad, it was sure to cause damage if left unchecked. Most people won't know this even needs attention. Like the Les Paul I got used, every nut and screw was very loose. Falling apart practically. And this guitar was no different. Why should you pay $4000 for a guitar that's falling apart when it leaves the store? The free setup is like a mail-in rebate, very few people will take advantage of it. Very people even know they need to have a guitar set up, let alone that it's bad for a guitar to be left with all of it's parts coming off it.
It's my belief that the guitar shouldn't leave the store this way. Either way, I'm lucky that this was all really easily fixed and caught early AND that I know how to repair all this. Some people will get annoyed that the guitar won't stay in tune, put it in a case and sell it to people like me a few years later at a $2400 loss!
