http://www.guitarBreakdown.com/ - When you think of popular Jazz Guitar Players ... George Benson has to be one of the first few that come to mind for almost everyone. He has recorded with some of the all time great musicians including ... Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sanatra, Jean-Luc Ponty, Tony Bennett, Chet Atkins, B.B. King, Rod Stewart ... to name only a small handful of the legendary artists George Benson has recorded with. And of course he's recorded piles of his own solo albums.
He mixes Blues and Jazz together so seamlessly and in a way that is so distinctively George Benson ... that after only two or three notes ... you quickly and easily recognize that it could only be George playing those amazing Guitar Phrases.

In this Lesson based on an article written by Gianluca Corona in the March 2013 issue of Guitar Techniques Magazine ... we take a look at one of several great Licks that really captures part of what makes George Benson the unique guitar player that he is.
If you are not familiar with Guitar Techniques Magazine ... definitely check them out thru amazon or at your local magazine stand ... it is an amazing magazine that never fails to inspire every month.
In this George Benson article Gianluca does a fantastic job of showing 20 Licks that show almost all of the Techniques that really define George's playing. From Double Stops to Chromatic Licks to Chord Stabs to his terrifying yet smooth use of Octaves ... it's all thoroughly examined in this article.
Here we BreakDown one of the 8 Licks in total that we will do Lessons on in our series of George Benson Jazz Quick Licks. This first Lick is a great example of his use of Chord Stabs to make rhythm parts exciting and less generic sounding. It's based on the first 4 measures of a simple Blues Progression ... but it sounds like so much more.
There are a lot of great Jazz Guitar Players out there from Joe Pass, Pat Metheny, Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall, Bill Frisell, Pat Martino, Joe diorio, Barney Kessel, Ted Green, Howard Roberts, Norman Brown, Emily Remier, Tal Farlow, Herb Ellis, Lenny Breau, Django Reinhardt ... and on and on and on ...
Included in the top of that list is definitely George Benson.
