Today we're looking at the Ruby Red from JHS Pedals. The Ruby Red is the result of a collaboration between JHS and legendary musician Butch Walker. Butch's sound depends largely on his ability to control his pedals with a combination of guitar knobs and articulation, so the Ruby Red needed to have amp-like reaction and dynamics, along with a big, bold sound that could push his Deluxe Reverb into breakup without compromising his tone. Between two independently switchable circuits complete with an order routing toggle, JHS has accomplished exactly that. The Ruby Red starts with JHS's Superbolt as a platform, the most touch-sensitive drive in the line, adding a toggle that gives more gain and tube-like sag. However, the right side of the Ruby Red contains an all-new, custom-designed two-stage boost circuit that gleams with harmonic overtones without taking over your tone. A handy second toggle chooses the order of the Boost and Superbolt circuits, giving you the choice of heavily saturating the front end of the Superbolt, or letting the Boost and Bolt circuits light the fuse to blast the front end of your amp. Careful use of the order toggle opens up the possibilities of the pedal, giving you every type of dirt out there from crystalline boost to raunchy fuzz. And like all JHS pedals, the Ruby Red is designed and built in the USA.
